Pret a Manger Is Launching Vegan Croissants Next Week

Pret a Manger will next week become the second major high street coffee chain, after Caffè Nero, to sell vegan croissants, as consumer demand for plant-based foods continues to soar.

Following numerous customers requests and months of development, the company created a new vegan version of the popular French pastry.

The new plant-based product is made using margarine and sunflower oil instead of butter to recreate the light texture of the traditional croissant. The croissant is filled with a jam-style berry compote and dusted with sugar.
Costing from £1.70, it will go on sale in all 389 shops from 7 January.

Hannah Dolan, Pret’s global head of food innovation, said:
“Over the past couple of years, we’ve worked hard to introduce new vegan and veggie options. We knew from talking to our customers that it was time to bring more choices to the breakfast menu. The very berry croissant is just the beginning – we are looking forward to sharing more plant-based innovations with customers in 2020.”
