Vegan Beauty: Kat Von D beauty haul & review

Kat Von D Beauty was one of those cult brands that for the longest time I wished we could easily get our hands on over here in the UK. I'd heard loads of US bloggers rave about it, particularly the infamous tattoo liner and the Lock It range. Not everything in the line is currently suitable for vegans (she is working on transitioning all her products over to be vegan) but there are a great selection of products with no animal ingredients, so of course I had to pick up a few of them when they finally launched in Debenhams in the UK at the end of last year.

Here's what I snapped up:

Tattoo Liner liquid eyeliner     £16.00 This is probably the item I was most excited about, and is the one I'd heard the most about on social media. It's a lovely eyeliner, and the colour is super black. When I first used it I was blown away - it has great lasting power and is really nice to use, however mine dried out super quickly and I felt that even just a few weeks after using it, it was starting to drag and now I can barely use it.  I'm not sure if I just had a bad batch - I'm going to repurchase it and see how it goes. If the lasting power was even just a bit longer, it would definitely be my ride or die liner.

Lock-It liquid foundation           £27.00 I got this in the colour Medium 53, which I estimated to be closest to my 'tanned' shade by looking at swatches on blogs. It's pretty hit or miss buying a foundation online having never seen it in real life, so I had no idea what it was going to be like. It's a little dark for me, but I can just about get away with it when I have fake tan on, and I am in love with the formula and coverage. It completely covers any flaws and is the kind of foundation that when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror when wearing it you think to yourself 'Damn! I look good today!' It definitely covers a multitude of sins and blurs any imperfections. I look forward to getting this in a lighter shade, as I would absolutely wear this as my every day foundation if I had it in a wider range of colours to suit my skin tone when I'm in between tans.

Lock-It' crème concealer         £20.00 I got this in the colour Light Neutral 05, which is way lighter than I would get it if I was using it as an actual concealer, however I rarely get spots, so this was bought to use purely as an under eye highlight, so I wanted it to be super bright. It gives great coverage and I haven't experienced any notable creasing. It's pretty much the only concealer I am reaching for right now, so it's definitely a winner.

Lock-It' edge foundation brush £26.00 This is the one item I purchased that I haven't yet used - I've been using my beauty blender to apply my foundation religiously since I got it, and haven't been able to bring myself to part ways with it yet in order to give this a go.

Lock-It' edge concealer brush       £19.00 The Kat Von D brush designs are simply stunning, if a little impractical, and this one is no exception. It's a nice brush, and I like using it to blend in the concealer, although I have a fluffier Illamasqua brush that I tend to use for blending concealer, so I've been switching between the two.

'Lock-It' loose powder face brush £27.00 This brush is super soft and I've really been enjoying using this to apply the Lock it setting powder. It's a nice size to pick up just the right amount of product, and is a pleasure to use.

'Lock-It' precision powder face brush       £20.00
I haven't found too much of a use yet for this brush, although I did try using it to apply highlighter recently, which it was OK for, but I adore my real techniques brushes for highlighting (I alternate between two of them) and I don't think I will be switching from them anytime soon. A nice to have rather than a must have for me.

Lock-It' setting powder       £20.00
I absolutely LOVE this stuff. It doesn't seem to be available on the Debenhams website right now  (I think it may be sold out), but if you see it come back in stock I would highly recommend snapping it up. It sets all of your liquid make up beautifully and preps you for adding powder products. I have been using it to bake my concealer (I have no idea why this suddenly became a thing, but it did, and I kind of love it) and also sweep it over the rest of my face before I apply my bronzer.

Overall I was really impressed with all the products I bought. There are a few more on my wish list that I'll definitely be picking up over the next couple of months, including a couple of other shades of the Lock It foundation, so I can blend my perfect colour, and I really really look forward to the day she announces her whole range is officially vegan. (My bank balance, not so much.)

I'd love to know if you have tried anything from Kat Von D? What did you think?
