Coffee chain Starbucks wants to lower its carbon footprint by introducing more vegan options to its menu.
The chain announced that a plant-based breakfast sandwich would debut this year in the locations in the US and Canada.
Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Rosalind Brewer said last week:
“We will be introducing a breakfast sandwich this year with a plant-based patty both in [the] United States and Canada”.
Starbucks didn’t reveal which plant-based food supplier it would partner with.
The corporation has recently released a new sustainability plan that includes adding more vegan options to reduce its carbon footprint.
Recent audit at Starbucks found that its dairy products drive the majority of the chain’s carbon footprint.
CEO Kevin Johnson announced that the company would move away from animal milk toward more environmentally friendly plant-based alternatives.
“Alternative milks will be a big part of the solution. The consumer-demand curve is already shifting,” - Johnson said.
