A new type of plant-based milk was launched in the United States this month. Táche is the first dairy-free alternative made entirely with pistachio nuts. Pistachio milk has fewer carbs, sugars and calories compared to oat and almond milk.
The new milk alternative is packed with vitamins B and offers a complete protein that contains all nine essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
Pistachios are naturally high in antioxidants: such as lutein and zeaxanthin, both of which protect your eyes from blue light damage (yes, you read that right) and age-related macular degeneration.
They can also help to decrease “Bad” LDL Cholesterol and increase “Good” HDL Cholesterol in the body and help to increase the number of beneficial gut bacteria.
Pistachio milk doesn’t contain rapeseed or canola oil. It is also more environmentally friendly compared to almond milk because the production process requires much less water.
The innovative barista-friendly drink is produced by a family-ran startup. The business is run by Roxana Saidi, her dad and her fiancee. They admitted that getting a supply chain at the right price was difficult.
Roxana and her father started fundraising in the beginning of 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic in the US. From then on they have raised $1.1 million through friends, family and angel investors.
Roxana Saidi, Tache co-founder, spoke to Force Brands about the inspiration behind the product.
She said: “Growing up, I was surrounded by pistachios as they were the go-to snack in our household and quickly became one of my favourite nuts. Years later, at a long family lunch in Paris, I had a full-circle moment when I was craving an almond milk latte. I realized that the snack I’ve loved all my life was not only flavorful and healthy but could also be turned into milk. The lightbulb went off and immediately upon returning to New York City, I started making different versions of pistachio milk in my apartment kitchen.”
The Táche Original Blend is sweetened with cane sugar, contains 80 calories per serving, 3.5g fat, 110mg sodium, 6g added sugars and 2g protein.
