American delivery platform Grubhub analysed 30 million orders and found that the popularity of plant-based meats alternatives is skyrocketing in 2020.
According to Grubhub’s report on the latest food trends called ‘Year in Food,’ the popularity of plant-based meat alternatives has increased by 463 per cent. Only last month (November), the orders for Impossible Burgers soared by 222 per cent.
The platform noted that the vegan trend had grown 135 per cent while vegetarian trend 27 per cent, meaning they have been slowing down when compared to 2019.
However, some vegan dishes have gained more traction this year. Among those with increasing popularity, there are: tofu spring rolls (263 per cent increase), plant-based burgers (251 per cent increase), black bean tacos (242 per cent increase), vegan chocolate cakes (211 per cent), and vegan ramen (183 per cent).
Grubhub revealed that the single biggest vegan order on the platform was for 300 bean burritos.
The company also reported that the place with the most vegan orders in the US in New York, followed by California, Oregon, Massachusetts, and Illinois.
