Dr. Oetker Adds Vegan Pizzas To Ristorante & Chicago Town Lines

by Tiago Pita

German food brand Dr. Oetker is adding a vegan pizza Margherita Pomodori to its popular Ristorante line.

The vegan Ristorante pizza is topped with cocktail tomatoes, marinated tomato pieces and a coconut oil-based vegan cheese alternative.

The Ristorante Pizza range is produced in Lancashire, England and is the leading frozen thin-base pizza brand in several European countries.

“It was a particular concern of ours to find a high-quality substitute for cheese that fits in with the Ristorante claim. We found it with a recipe based on coconut oil,” said Insa Parkan, Pizza Product Developer at Dr. Oetker.

“Since only real cheese such as mozzarella, Edam or Gouda has been used on our frozen pizzas so far, the search for an alternative that is equivalent in taste was the biggest challenge."

Dr. Oetker Professional subsidiary brand Chicago Town, that offers deep crust Chicago style pizzas, launched a vegan ‘bacon’ stuffed crust pizza for Veganuary last month.

Chicago Town is the UK’s biggest-selling frozen pizza. For Veganuary 2020 the brand launched Vegan Tomato Stuffed Crust Sticky BBQ Jackfruit which became the best-selling vegan pizza in the UK in 2020.
