Bats without Borders
£200 from sales of this box were donated to Bats without Borders.
This month we will be sponsoring Bats Without Borders. Bats aren't scary but their extinction definitely is! This Halloween we are highlighting the huge diversity and importance of bats. Did you know that there are over 1,400 different types (species) of bats in the world? Bats without Borders works across southern Africa to conserve bats. As you can probably imagine bats haven't had an easy 2020. Bats are important seed dispersers, pollinators (including the agave plant which gives us tequila), and voracious eaters of insect pests. The smallest bat in southern Africa is the banana bat, which has little suckers on its thumbs to help it climb and the adults weigh around 4g! Probably the most famous (and largest) bat is the awesome straw-coloured fruit bat. These bats migrate from across Africa to the small but famous Kasanka National Park in Zambia, estimates range from 5-10 million fruit bats, making this the largest fruit bat roost in the world! So while you are enjoying your lovely TheVeganKind box this October, Bats Without Borders would like to thank you and Team TVK for supporting bat conservation! You can follow us on FB or Twitter to find out more about the work we do and the bats we are trying to conserve! You can find out more about the great work our friends at Bats Without Borders do at their website.
